GOOCH & HOUSEGO PLC RELOCATES ILMINSTER SITE

March 26 2008 - Ilminster, UK - Gooch & Housego PLC has today announced the relocation of its Ilminster site to a new purpose-designed facility on the outskirts of the town.

The move comes as a result of the company’s continuous growth over the past few years and the lack of development space at its existing facility.  The relocation will enable the company to consolidate all of its Ilminster staff and facilities, previously divided between a number of locations, on to one site.

Both Gooch and Housego PLC corporate activities, and the Gooch and Housego (Ilminster) manufacturing operations are located at the new site. The new facility, at Dowlish Ford in Ilminster, has approximately twice the floor area of the old site, providing more work space.  The design of the site not only aims to ease the flow of existing work by improving efficiency and effectiveness, but will have the capability to handle an increased production throughput as the company grows.   “This is an exciting time of growth and development for Gooch & Housego PLC,” comments Gooch & Housego CEO, Gareth Jones.  “Historically, we expanded our previous site, however due to its location and layout, the site developed in a very fragmented way.  The relocation will provide us with additional space and will aid communication and efficiency by bringing our staff and facilities together under one roof."

“Alongside this move, we have also embarked on a factory extension at the Gooch & Housego Torquay site, which will provide over 35 per cent more space, enabling us to increase our output quickly and effectively,” adds Gareth. Planning permission has already been submitted to South Somerset District Council, to transform the old Gooch & Housego Ilminster site in to both residential dwellings and retail premises, continuing the sites commercial history.

This relocation follows the January launch of the new Gooch & Housego  Components business, which  brings together Gooch & Housego UK; Cleveland Crystals; NEOS Technologies; Landwehr Electronics and SIFAM Fibre Optics, as one company under the Gooch & Housego brand. Gooch & Housego will be exhibiting its latest technologies at this years CLEO (Conference on Lasers and Electro-optics), taking place from the 4th to 8th May at the San Jose McEnery Convention Centre.

If you would like to arrange a meeting with Gooch & Housego at CLEO, please contact Howard Jones on +44 (0) 115 948 6901 or by email howard@bcspr.co.uk.  - Ends -
