Acquisition Milestones
Gooch & Housego PLC these past ten years have been building a strong Components & Materials Platform. It Started in 1999...
In 1999: Acquired Cleveland Crystals Inc.Gooch & Housego (Ohio) LLC formerly Cleveland Crystals, Inc. (CCI) traces its roots back to the Brush Development Company, Clevite and Gould. At these locations, the founders developed crystal growth techniques for military applications such as sonar and missile domes. In 1973, this group formed Cleveland Crystals. The emerging company's focus was directed to the development of nonlinear-optical crystalline materials, optical frequency conversion, and electro-optical device development for applications in the growing laser industry. With this foundation, G&H Ohio has become the world leader in the growth and fabrication of large-aperture KDP and KD*P crystals for Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) applications. We are working in partnership with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) to optimize the Rapid Crystal Growth method to produce large crystals for the next stage of ICF development. Cleveland Crystal grows the largest KDP boules in the world. In the area of electro-optical devices, the QX1020 Pockels cell is the established industry standard E-O Q-switch, with thousands in the field. In addition to KDP and KD*P, CCI offers many other crystalline materials for applications ranging from the ultraviolet to the infrared. These materials include BBO, CLBO, AgGaS2, AgGaSe2, CdS, CdSe, and ZGP. G&H Ohio was the first and remains the largest commercial producer of BBO in the United States. BBO is a nonlinear optical material well suited for high average power and UV applications. G&H Ohio has developed proprietary software that gives us the unique ability to supply length-optimized crystals for many applications. Another unique competency of G&H Ohio is the design and fabrication of IR wave plates, which are supplied in zero-order, net-zero-order, multi-order, and achromatic configurations. G&H Ohio's optical coating capabilities cover the UV - IR range and include custom thin-film design and deposition capabilities for dielectric, Sol Gel, and hybrid coatings. Contract R&D is provided in the areas of crystal growth, optical coatings, nonlinear-optical frequency conversion, and electro-optical device development. The manufacturing capabilities of G&H Ohio are supported by a unique competency in optical fabrication and an in-house precision machine shop.
In 2000: Acquired Neos Technologies Inc.Gooch & Housego (Florida) LLC formerly Neos Technologies manufactures Acousto-Optic components for control of lasers and laser beams. These products range in use from the entertainment industry for laser light shows, to industrial and medical applications including spectroscopy and Hyperspectral imaging. The G&H Florida Acousto Optic modulators, companion drivers, and Bragg mount assemblies make up laboratory turnkey systems for performing basic experiments in intensity control, beam deflection, frequency shifting and Hyperspectral imaging. These products, serve both OEM applications and individual users.G&H Florida is located in sunny Melbourne FL. 30 miles east of Orlando and 20 miles south of Cape Canaveral. We are celebrating 25 years serving our customers.
In 2004: Acquired Landwehr Electronics GmbH. Gooch & Housego (Deutschland) GmbH formerly Landwehr Electronic GmbH is a German based company with over 25 years of experience in development, manufacturing and sales of electronic equipment.G&H Deutschland develop High-Frequency Micro Electronics for Laser Control Systems in symbiosis with Acousto-Optical-Devices.
In 2007: Acquired SIFAM Fibre Optics. Gooch & Housego (Torquay) Ltd formerly SIFAM Fibre Optics was established in the UK in 1985, it is a leader in the design, manufacture and supply of fibre optic solutions.
- Optical Components - the widest variety of high performance fused components ranging from taps to high power combiners
- Photonic Packaging - versatile custom solutions for active devices provided by an experienced team working within a fully equipped facility
- Integrated Modules - optoelectronic integration capability based on extensive experience and incorporating in house component technology
In 2008: Acquired General Optics. Gooch & Housego (California) LLC formerly General Optics the latest Acquisition of Gooch & Housego PLC is a manufacturer of ultra-precision optical components. Our company was founded in Moorpark, CA in 1974 with the purpose of providing cutting edge optics to the Defence, Aerospace, Semiconductor, Medical, and Research markets. Over the years we have developed proprietary manufacturing processes that allow us to achieve surface roughness of better than 1 Angstrom on a variety of materials including Zerodur, BK-7, Fused Silica, Silicon, Sapphire, and Silicon Carbide. G&H California have also developed unique IBS coating designs for high reflection and low loss coatings. In addition, we have the capability to provide many standard metal and dielectric optical coatings either on our standard substrates or customer supplied material.
Gooch & Housego PLC acquired Optronic Laboratories in 1995. It was the first acquisition for the Instrumental & Systems Platform, to follow in 2006 was the acquisition of Chromodynamics Inc.
